Here’s a recent gig poster that I did for The Heartbreak’s Newcastle show. You can find out more info HERE
Last summer I was commissioned by Limehouse Books to illustrate the front cover and end papers of a new novel by Sophia Blackwell. Using one of my previous illustrations as the main source of reference I was asked to convey the sense of the main character being on a journey of self discovery. The book is about Evie Day questioning her sexuality and her quest to find ‘the one’.
You can find out more about the novel HERE and buy a copy from Amazon HERE.
I’m really pleased with how the book has turned out, Emily Foster at Limehouse books has done a really great job with the design and end papers. It’s my first published book cover so it was pretty exciting to finally get my hands on a copy at the launch party last week.
Here is the promo artwork that I illustrated for The Flood Gallery Junior, a gallery in Greenwich that I’m helping to launch. The store is a new venture from The Flood Gallery and specialises in family-friendly limited edition art prints. This is the first time I’ve illustrated anything specifically for kids and I’m pretty happy with it. I think ‘Captain Legs’ might crop up a lot more in the future…
The opening night is this Thursday (March 1) and if is anyone is in the Greenwich area it would be ace if you popped by - you’ll even get a free cupcake! We will be showcasing lots of our newest prints and products from awesome Eleanor Grosch, Family Tree Design and Poketo.
Last Summer John Coe coecreative.com and I worked on a design tender for Shambala Festival. I created the illustrations while John created visuals for websites, brochures and promotional products, onto which my illustrations were then placed. I really enjoyed this project and although we did not win the tender it was a really great experience working with John and seeing my illustration brought to life in different contexts.
I was commissioned by the Canadian business magazine Profit to illustrate two articles for the March edition. The illustration above was to accompany an article about how companies are able to crowd source their own market research via social media platforms. A mountain bike company featured in the article is seen here looking out over conservations that they are able to access and utilise via social media.
The illustration below is for a piece about rewarding sales staff with bonuses which are dependent on their achievements.
I’ll just added lots of new prints for sale on my SHOP
including this London illustration available as a Giclee print
I was recently asked by The Skinny to create an e-book illustration for their Book section in the February edition of the mag.
I was really chuffed to be asked by the The Times to illustrate the front cover of their Student Law supplement that was published today. It was particularly nice to be commissioned by Jon Hill for a second time after the image I did for the Law section back in June of last year. The article the image was for focused on issues around the government funding of law student’s being cut and how they’ll struggle to support themselves while at university. I’m really happy with how the image turned out on paper, especially since it’s one of the largest illustrations I’ve done.
I’ve finished building my new website!
www.kerryhyndman.co.uk is where it lives.
I’ve recently been working with the awesome band O’Messy Life doing a poster for their series of ’ O’Messy life present’ gigs. I’ll also working on some more space themed illustrations for then to be revealed soon.
In the mean time you should give you ears a treat and give em a listen… here
I was commissioned by Haas Business School at Berkeley University to design their 2011 Greetings Cards. The brief was to feature the sky line of their buildings and to create a greetings card without including any Christmas imagery, robins, snow or Christmas trees! The image above was one of my favorites from the design process and one below was chosen as the finished card illustration.
I’ve been a bit quiet on here of late as I’m now managing The Flood Gallery in Greenwich, which has been super busy over Christmas, but as it’s now quietened down a bit I have the chance to start blogging my recent work. Here is a poster for the up coming GhostPoet gig in Newcastle on the 27th Feb. you can find more out about the show HERE on the portions for foxes site.

I was recently asked by Boneshaker magazine to create an illustration for Issue #7 to accompany an article by Jet McDonald. The article included reference to a trip where Jet found himself enjoying ‘short lapses of silence’ while cycling on a plateau through the Turkish mountains. In contrast to this memory he also talks about the busy, hectic and noisy experiencing of cycling in a city where people seem preoccupied with jumping red lights and listening to music rather than enjoying the simplicity of the ride. It was these images that I chose to focus on in the spot illustrations.
I’ve just finished this illustration for The Silver Screen Society - Each month a different film is chosen and illustrators are asked to create a piece of work inspired by that film. My film was Woody Allen’s ‘Sleeper’. You can see the rest of the entries HERE.
This week I took part in the Ten Paces and Draw blog. Everyone is given the weekly theme (this week was world culture) and then creates a sketch. Someone then turns you’re sketch into a finished illustration while you illustrate somebody else’s sketch. Above is the image that I created from a sketch by Natalie Andrewson. And below is my Morris dancers sketch that Adrien Dacquel turned into an awesome illustration HERE.
I’ve been working on some christmas card images and thought I’d try and do an off duty/deep in though Father Christmas portrait. Because he’s probably a bit worried about all the work that needs doing before christmas. I was going for an old weathered fisherman type look but in retrospect thats probably not very festive. The first time I did the portrait he looked maybe a bit too grumpy so I thought I’d try again and add a bit of ‘jolly’ to him.
I’ve made a little process video of me working with photoshop and illustrator on these images and I would really appreciate any feedback on the portraits and if you think that they’d work as christmas cards. I’m worried they may be a bit too gloomy to be festive - but then again Christmas is a pretty stressful time of year for everyone involved!
My mum made a cushion out of my London Pattern fabric last week. my mum is ace!
